Q1: Can I use an erecting eye piece on this to make the image upright?
A: Yes, as long as it is the erecting eyepiece it will work to correct the image in any reflector.
Q2: Can you please tell me which erecting eyepiece "model" I should purchase for NexStar 130 SLT?
A: The Zhumell 1.5x Erecting Eyepiece model #1.25-1.5XERECT-NO.
Q3: Can you please tel me which soft carrying case "model & brand" I should purchase for NexStar 130 SLT?
A: Currently there is not a case made specifically for this scope as the scope hasn't been released from Celestron yet. One thing you you can do though is use a duffel bag and just line it with cushioning. Inexpensive and very effective.
Q4: Which solar filter "made and model" can I use with NexStar 130 SLT?
A: Currently Celestron does not have one available for the 130 SLT. There should be one released from Celestron shortly after the scopes are released.
Q5: I live in an area with several companies with lights. I also have several street lights near my house. I can see a few stars by eye. Will I still be able to see enough to make buying this telescope worth while? Will a bigger telescope better overcome the background light problem?
A: "Worthwhile" is a relativistic term. What I will tell you is that we have customers who use their 14 inch scopes off of balconies on Manhattan Island (light and pollution everywhere) and they love their telescopes. They still hate light pollution, but they love and use the scopes.
Q6: I am thinking about getting the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT. Is it capable of doing more stuff then the NexSar 60, 80, 102, and 114 SLT and in what ways? Also, if I get the Nexstar 130 SLT, I was going to get the Celestron Eyepiece and Filter Kit - 1.25 Inch Format. Will the kit match up with the telescope and is it duplicating what I would be getting with the telescope? The telescope's user level is listed as intermediate, but I would say that I am at a beginner level, would that be an impediment for me in operating the telescope?
A: A telescope with a 130mm aperture, such as the NexStar 130SLT has, is capable of gathering more light than one with a smaller primary mirror. Hence, you'll be able to see more distant objects, and your views of closer objects will be brighter under high magnification. The 130 SLT is intermediate in capability, but that doesn't mean a beginner can't operate it. The GoTo feature should simplify finding celestial objects for you. The eyepiece & filter kit will work nicely with the 130SLT. You will be duplicating the 9mm eyepiece, but since that's one you'll be using often, it might be a good idea to have a spare.
Q7: Can this telescope see planets, nebula's, galaxies and other deep space objects?
A: Yes, Celestron's NexStar 130 SLT will let you see deep-space objects. Every telescope has limitations, however, and the NexStar 130 is no exception. Its 5.12-inch optics will allow it to see out to Magnitude 13+. That's enough to bring in light from about 15 million stars, but a telescope with larger optics will bring in more.
Q8: Can you take pictures with this telescope?
A: Yes, you can take pictures with the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT. It will do a nice job.
Q9: I saw at the bottom of the page there was no case when this telescope was new. Is there a carrying case for it or not yet?
A: Unfortunately, Celestron has not got around to making a case yet for the NexSTar 130 SLT telescope. Stay tuned, though. We're told that Zhumell is working on a case that will fit telescopes of this size. You might want to check back in a few months to see what progress has been made.
Q10: What length is the telescope tube on the Nexstar 130 SLT?
A: The length of the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT telescope's optical tube is about 26 inches.
Q11: I have the NexStar 80SLT. Will it be possible to buy just the tube and use it with the mount that came with my 80 SLT?
A: Unfortunately, the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT optical tube is not available by itself.
Q12: What is the size of the complete set i.e. tube and the tripod?
A: The Celestron NexStar 130 SLT telescope's shipping size is 40 x 20 x 11 inches. Shipping weight is 35 pounds.
Q13: You stated: 8. Sat Jun 24 13:02:47 2006 Q: Can you take pics. with this telescope? A: Yes, you can take pictures with the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT. It will do a nice job. My question is what accesories would I need to do that this with this scope?
A: Accessories required depend on the type of camera you want to use with the scope. If it's a DSLR, you'll need a device like the Zhumell Universal T-Adapter and a T-ring to fit your camera body. If you have A digital point-and-shoot, you'll want the Zhumell Universal Digiscoping Adapter -small.
Q14: How easy is it to learn to use the star align?
A: The Celestron NexStar 130 SLT telescope is easy for a novice to use. You'll have it up and running within a half hour. You'll need a good set of eyepieces and filters to get the most from your scope.
